General Manager
My name is Bec, and my career in the veterinary industry began in 2009. Over the years I have worked as an experienced Veterinary Nurse through general practice, emergency and specialty clinics. Since the opening of Lynbrook Vet in 2018, and now with our sister clinic, Berwick Clyde Vet having opened in 2023, my role has evolved significantly. I began as our sole veterinary nurse working along side Dr Kunal & Dr Alina and am now the General Manager across both clinics. This shift allows me to support both our patients and our incredible team, which I feel very fortunate to do.
About Me
I asked my Dad once, “how did I become so obsessed with animals?” He told me it was because of my Nanna – she has forever loved animals no matter how big or small and has spread that passion on through the generations. I am very grateful for that because I find that my most joyful and happiest times happen when I am around animals. It has been a journey through which I have found another passion in educating and caring for people. I am a bit of a social butterfly and love to talk! The great thing about my job, is that the people I meet have pets and there is nothing I love more than talking about, and getting to know about your pets! I chose a career in this industry because I wanted to make a difference in the lives of animals and the families who love them.
My Passion, Purpose and Motivation
I believe every creature deserves the right to feel safe, loved, and be given the highest level of medical care. I use my experiences in the veterinary industry to motivate, enable, and empower others to help me achieve this for my patients, be that pets or wildlife. I am extremely passionate about wildlife, having been a wildlife carer and volunteer for many years. I have had the pleasure of working with an abundance of amazing creatures including possums, kangaroos, wombats, birds and reptiles. Some of my volunteer experiences have been through work in shelters, cleaning and raising orphan native possums, and working with local pet rescue groups, having raised many neonatal kittens. I have also been fortunate to be involved in an array of education programs, teaching the public about Australia’s magnificent reptiles, amphibians, and the unique wildlife we are so lucky to share our homes with here in Australia.
I love to educate people about animals and the things that make them so unique and wonderful. I am part of the Zoo & Wildlife Veterinary Nurses Association (ASZK & ZWVNA) and have a strong interest in supporting wildlife in veterinary clinics. While I’m not a specialist, I’ve dedicated myself to learning through numerous courses, personal study, and hands-on experience. I’ve taught TAFE veterinary nursing students about wildlife nursing and husbandry, and have worked closely with wildlife, especially birds affected by botulism, a treatable illness that effects many wetland birds each year.
My Qualifications and Experience
I knew I wanted to work with animals and I was willing to work hard to achieve this. When it came time to look for a job, I only applied at shelters, vets and pet shops – places where I thought I could make a difference in the care and treatment of animals. I wanted to learn as much as I could to help animals and looked at further study which included a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing along with a Bachelor of Science which I completed at Monash University. My education included studies in the veterinary world as well as animal behaviour, environments, biology and conservation. My experiences through general practice, emergency and specialty clinics have helped me to understand the many different aspects of veterinary medicine, surgery and emergency and allow me to make more informed decisions about my patient’s care.
My Family and Hobbies
When I say ‘animals are my life’, I don’t just talk the talk – I walk the walk! I live and breathe animals, spending my weekends out and about with the dogs, my weeknights snuggled on the couch with the cats and my mornings being screamed at by my birds! My pet family consists of Charlie and Willow; two cheeky conure parrots, Daisy a very in your face love bird, Annabelle and Isabella my beautiful, loving cats, Kenzie and Lilah my fluffy miniature poodles and my old girl, Fifi the labradoodle.
I am also super arty. I love drawing, crochet, painting, pottery and digital designs and illustrations. I love photography (with animals as my subject models!) and keeping my pet’s Instagram profiles up to date with new reels and pictures. I love being outdoors in the sunshine, walking through forests and nature. I also love food, cooking with my husband and lazy days on the couch binge watching series on Netflix which I must admit, doesn’t happen all that often anymore since becoming a mum to a human child who is just as obsessed with animals as I am! I am so grateful to be able to share my passion for animals with my daughter, and to guide her to live a happy life along side the natural world.
