End Of Life Care

Saying goodbye to a beloved pet is one of the most challenging and emotionally charged moments in a pet owner’s life. At Berwick Clyde Vet, we understand the profound bond you share with your furry family member and the importance of ensuring their comfort and dignity during this difficult time. Our end-of-life care services are thoughtfully designed to provide compassion and support to both you and your pet as you navigate this final journey together.

A Caring Approach

At Berwick Clyde Vet, we believe that every pet deserves a peaceful and pain-free transition when their time comes. Our compassionate team is here to offer guidance, comfort, and a range of end-of-life care services to meet the unique needs of your pet and your family.

End-of-Life Consultations

Our experienced veterinarians are available to discuss your pet’s condition, prognosis, and treatment options. We provide a safe and empathetic space for you to ask questions, express your concerns, and make informed decisions about your pet’s end-of-life care.

Pain Management

Comfort is a top priority during this stage of your pet’s life. We offer pain management strategies to ensure your pet is as comfortable as possible, minimizing any discomfort or distress they may be experiencing.

Quality of Life Assessments

Determining your pet’s quality of life is a crucial aspect of end-of-life care. Our team can assess your pet’s well-being and help you make decisions about their care based on their comfort and dignity.

Euthanasia

When the time comes to say goodbye, we offer peaceful and humane euthanasia services. This allows your pet to pass away gently, without pain or distress.

For these type of visits, we extend our appointments to 40 mins to ensure you have the time you need and don’t feel rushed. At the beginning of the consultation, the vet will examine your pet and have a discussion with you before proceeding to euthanasia.

We will ensure the room is set up to provide a private, calming environment where your family can spend time with your beloved pet who will be given a comfortable bed to lie on or you are also most welcome to hold them. Our aim is to make this as peaceful as possible.

For those who would like to understand the process, the next step is placing an IV catheter and then, when you’re ready, we give a sedative that makes your pet sleepy, calm and relaxed. We follow this with a special drug that then puts them to sleep. It is very quick and painless.

Aftercare Services

We can also assist with aftercare arrangements. We understand that every family has unique wishes for their pet’s final resting place, and we strive to accommodate these choices.

The 3 most common choices are:

  • cremation with your pet’s ashes returned in a beautiful receptacle
  • cremation with no ashes returned or
  • you may decide to take your pet home for burial.

Whatever your wishes, we are here to help and will support you each step of the way.

Grief Support

Losing a beloved pet can be an emotionally overwhelming experience. Our team is here to provide support and resources to help you and your family navigate the grieving process.

Talking about your loss with someone you trust may help you feel better about the situation. If you don’t feel comfortable talking to a relative or friend, consider contacting a telephone counseling service or a grief support group.
