I have been a veterinary nurse since 2017 after initially studying biology with the intention of working in ecological genetics.
I found my part time job as an animal attendant so rewarding that it led me to a new studying path where in 2019, I obtained my Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing. I became a registered veterinary nurse with the Veterinary Nurse’s Council in 2020.
During this time I worked in an animal shelter and fostered many cats and kittens. Growing up, there were always animals in the house and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. From budgies, to sea monkeys, fish, hermit crabs, rats, stick insects and of course, I always had a cat.
I have many memories of going with my parents to our local vet for our cat’s vaccines, desexing, dentals, cancer treatment and more. From the nurses at reception to the vet in the exam room, they helped us to give our cat’s over the years the best care. Although that practice mainly treated cats and dogs, that didn’t stop them from seeing our budgie with kidney disease and my rat with a tooth root abscess and ultimately, seeing their care and dedication towards animals of all kinds is why I started nursing. I wanted to help educate and support people to give their pets the happiest healthiest lives too.
No pet is too small, too old, or too exotic of a species to deserve the best care possible, and if it means I get to learn something new in the process then all the better.
I have a keen interest in pathology, nutrition, fear free handling and all things cats!! These days I share my house with a Ragdoll called Mika, a Moggie called Mira (the foster that never left!). I also have a goldfish called Victor and Juno the Princess Parrot. When I’m not working you’ll find me in my garden, knitting, crocheting, spinning or otherwise crafting.
