About Me:
Ever since I was a kid, I have always loved animals! From unicorns to dinosaurs, marine life to dogs and cats and everything in between. Every school holiday I would beg my parents to take me to the zoo and for any toy animal I saw on the shelves. To this day, I have all of my childhood stuffed animals that I was never able to bring myself to throw out.
In high school I was inspired by people like Steve Irwin and Jane Goodall, who dedicated their whole lives to animal welfare and I knew I wanted to become someone like that when I was older. In university, I always looked forward to my zoology classes, to be surrounded by like minded and such knowledgeable people felt amazing. It was one of the only classes I thoroughly enjoyed and I would always come home and tell all my friends and family all the cool things I learned that day. When I got my own fur baby and witnessed the love and laughter he brought into my family, I wanted everyone to experience that same joy and I knew I would do anything to make that happen.
My Passion, Purpose and Motivation
As a joke, I have always told myself that the biggest accomplishment you can have in life is having an animal trust you, but looking back on it now it actually doesn’t seem like a joke anymore. Working in the vet industry gives me the opportunity to help animals in need and gain their trust. It allows me to become a safe and comforting space for them. I will never get sick of seeing the beautiful faces of all the pets and their happiness when they are reunited with their owners after a day in the hospital. It made me realise that it never is really “just a dog” or “just a rabbit”, it is their family, their companion and their best friend. I hope to share this mindset with everyone I meet in life.
My special interest is understanding animal behaviour. It wasn’t until university that I realised just how complex animal behaviour truly is; it is so intricate, intelligent, beautiful and at times very funny.
My Qualification & Experience
I studied Biomedical Science and Science double degree, majoring in Zoology, at Monash University. This was a 4 year course that I finished in mid 2024.
I started my journey in the vet industry by volunteering a few days a week at Berwick Clyde Vet in 2023. During this time, I dipped my feet in many areas from handling animals, assisting veterinary nurses, surgery preparation, consult nursing and eventually landing a role as Animal Attendant at both Berwick Clyde Vet and our sister clinic, Lynbrook Vet. Everyday there’s something new to learn and experience. Whether it be fun or difficult, I love every second of it.
I am very grateful for this opportunity because I learned so much in such a short amount of time and I would recommend anyone wanting to get their foot into the industry to have a go at volunteering.
My Family
At the moment I have one fur baby called Arjun. He is a Labrador cross Golden Retriever. He is such a goofball and absolutely loves to eat!! I love him to bits even though I know he will trade me for a spoon of peanut butter!
I have always been a dog person but I am transitioning to the cat side now. I do wish to eventually get Arjun a kitty companion very soon.
Outside of work I love reading. I never used to read much as a child but once I found the right book, I got sucked into it. I also love watching animated movies, especially the old DreamWorks ones and my favourite movie series is “How to Train Your Dragon”, for obvious reasons. Finally, I love riding my motorcycle. This always surprises people and I must admit it was very daunting initially but I fell in love with the freedom riding gave me instantly.
